[UPDATE OCT 10 2011]: October 31 2011 IS a holiday in the Philippines as officially announced here. Thanks PNoy. 🙂
November 1 is “All Saints Day” and is apparently merged with “All Souls Day” in the Philippines.
Since Nov 1 is a holiday, either Oct 31st or Nov 2 is usually considered a holiday when one is between a weekend and November 1.
- The Philippines is composed of islands. If a Filipino works in a different island from his/her home, the fastest travelling time would be 40 minutes by plane.
- Filipinos have this traditional need of going to cemeteries to pay respects to their departed loved ones. These cemeteries are usually in islands where they might not be having jobs.
- The average Filipino has to spend at least 2,000 pesos for a round trip fare. That’s way to big to just spend one day in their HOME provinces.
So for the year 2011, workers are still confused whether October 31 might be a holiday or not.
It would be very considerate of you, Dear NOYNOY to be announcing it earlier so that we, the ordinary working Filipinos, can take advantage of cheap fares to our respective homes.
I know that you have this “trabaho lang” bollocks that you announced last year for Nov 2. Guess what, your bosses had to catch transportation 5 minutes after they light their candles so that they can return to work on time.
Filipinos are hard working already, dear President. They know what “trabajo” means probably more than you do. I hope you give us a little token by just giving us one extra day with our families at home. LIHOG LANG GID NOY.
Update [oct 5 2011] I just published this post yesterday and it drove 100+ views to my blog. Every working citizen is this country is waiting for an answer.
So my drift? I’m booking a ticket from Cebu to Bacolod later with airphilexpress. I will be absent on October 31st if it won’t be a holiday. It will come out of my pay though. Thanks noy.
p.s. i don’t have a rant category
